The mAlg8 synthetic long peptide vaccine is an experimental immunotherapy designed to target Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections, particularly in the context of cystic fibrosis. It consists of synthetic long peptides (SLPs) derived from a mutated version of the Alg8 protein, which is a key glycosyltransferase involved in the biosynthesis of alginate, a major component of the protective biofilm produced by P. aeruginosa. By utilizing synthetic long peptides, the vaccine aims to elicit a robust and broad T-cell response, including both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, to overcome the immune evasion strategies of the bacteria. The primary goal is to reduce bacterial load and prevent chronic colonization by disrupting biofilm formation and enhancing the host's cellular immune defense against the pathogen.
