Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mallow extract is a botanical preparation derived from the flowers and leaves of the Malva sylvestris plant, commonly known as common mallow. The extract is rich in components like mucilage, polysaccharides, flavonoids, and tannins. Traditionally used for its medicinal properties, mallow extract is being clinically investigated for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and soothing effects. Clinical trials are evaluating its efficacy in a mouthwash formulation for reducing oral biofilm and inflammation in gingivitis and periodontitis, and as a nasal spray for allergic rhinitis and chronic sinusitis. It is also noted for its emollient and moisturizing properties, making it a common ingredient in cosmetic and skincare products.
