Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Malva sylvestris tincture is a botanical extract derived from the common mallow plant, *Malva sylvestris*. It is primarily recognized for its high mucilage content and antioxidant polyphenols, which provide soothing, lubricating, and protective effects. In recent pre-clinical research, the tincture has been investigated as a therapeutic component in ophthalmic formulations for dry eye disease (DED). It functions by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) to mitigate oxidative stress on the ocular surface and by reducing the surface tension of eye drops to better match the physicochemical properties of natural tear fluid. It is frequently studied in combination with lubricating agents like hyaluronic acid to enhance tear film stability and promote epithelial healing.
