Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Malvatricin is a topical antiseptic and antimicrobial combination product developed and marketed by Laboratório Daudt Oliveira Ltda, a Brazilian pharmaceutical company. The formulation contains two primary active ingredients: **hydroxyquinoline sulfate** and **tyrothricin**. Hydroxyquinoline sulfate acts as a broad-spectrum antiseptic, while tyrothricin is a mixture of cyclic and linear polypeptides (primarily gramicidins and tyrocidines) that exerts bactericidal activity by disrupting bacterial cell membranes, particularly against Gram-positive organisms. Malvatricin is indicated for the treatment of oropharyngeal infections, pharyngitis, and related conditions such as gingivitis and stomatitis. It acts locally within the oral cavity and oropharynx with minimal systemic absorption. The product is available in multiple dosage forms, including ready-to-use solutions, sprays, lozenges, and dental gels, and is registered with the Brazilian health regulatory authority, ANVISA.
