MamaceraM is a medical device consisting of ecological beeswax breast pads (mammary areolae) developed by the University of Alicante. These thin, rigid discs are handcrafted from approximately 9 grams of pure organic operculum beeswax and are designed to be placed directly on the nipple and areola of breastfeeding mothers. The device aims to prevent nipple lesions and improve breastfeeding adherence, particularly in primiparous women, by leveraging the natural moisturizing, antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties of beeswax. Research conducted between 2017 and 2022 (NCT03676608) demonstrated that using these pads in combination with WHO health education significantly increased breastfeeding rates at 3 and 6 months postpartum compared to standard care.
