Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Mambisa** is an intranasal recombinant protein-subunit COVID-19 vaccine candidate developed by the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Cuba. It combines the receptor-binding domain of the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein with hepatitis B virus core antigen, which serves as an immunopotentiating component in a mixed nanoparticle formulation. Intranasal administration is intended to induce local nasal mucosal and systemic immune responses, including antibodies that inhibit SARS-CoV-2 entry into host cells. Available public evidence supports phase 1–2 clinical development, including use as a booster in COVID-19 convalescents; it should not be characterized as having marketing authorization based solely on the cited CECMED clinical-trial approval.
