Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Man Zu Fei Ji Fa Fang (慢阻肺急发方) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula designed for the treatment of acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The formulation typically consists of multiple herbal ingredients, such as prepared Arisaema (制南星), Pinellia ternata (法半夏), Platycodon grandiflorum (桔梗), Fritillaria cirrhosa (川贝), Asarum sieboldii (细辛), Prunus armeniaca seed (杏仁), raw licorice root (生甘草), Schisandra chinensis fruit (五味子), raw Ephedra sinica herb (生麻黄), Perilla frutescens seed (白苏子), Tussilago farfara flower bud (款冬花), and Aster tataricus root and rhizome extractum dry powder or decoction pieces. This combination aims to resolve phlegm, repair lung damage, improve respiratory muscle function, and restore airway function in COPD patients. Clinical reports suggest that this formula can effectively alleviate symptoms during acute exacerbations and may be used over several courses for optimal effect[2]. The mechanism is based on TCM principles—clearing phlegm, relieving cough and asthma, supporting lung qi—and not on a single molecular target.
