Overview
Managlinat dialanetil is an orally bioavailable small molecule and a bisamidate prodrug that acts as a selective inhibitor of fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase (FBPase), one of the rate-limiting enzymes in hepatic gluconeogenesis. By inhibiting FBPase, it reduces endogenous glucose production by the liver, targeting elevated blood glucose levels characteristic of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The drug was developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and reached phase II clinical trials in Europe and the US. It was originally developed by Metabasis Therapeutics (formerly Gensia Sicor), in collaboration with Daiichi Sankyo[5][3][1][2].
