Overview

Mandipropamid (Mandi) is a versatile small molecule with dual applications. In biological research, it functions as a plant hormone-based chemical inducer of proximity (CIP), precisely manipulating protein-protein interactions in live cells and in vivo by interacting with engineered plant hormone receptors like Pyrabactin resistance 1 (PYR1) and Abscisic acid insensitive (ABI) or Homology to ABA-binding protein 1 (HAB1). A photocaged derivative, pMandi, allows for light-triggered induction of these interactions, offering spatiotemporal control. It has been utilized in chemically-regulated gene expression systems for synthetic biology applications. Additionally, mandipropamid is an agrochemical fungicide, belonging to the mandelamide class of carboxylic acid amides. It is highly effective against oomycete plant pathogens, including those causing late blight in potatoes and tomatoes, and downy mildew in grapes. Its fungicidal mechanism involves the inhibition of cell wall synthesis, specifically by targeting cellulose synthase-like PiCesA3 in oomycetes.
