Overview

Mandragora autumnalis ethanolic extract (MAE) is a plant-derived substance under investigation for its potential anticancer properties, specifically against triple-negative breast cancer (MDA-MB-231) cell lines. It has been shown to reduce the viability of these cancer cells in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. The extract's mechanism of action involves inducing oxidative stress, increasing the expression of the tumor suppressor p53, and decreasing the expression of the cellular proliferation marker Ki-67, matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) which is implicated in extracellular matrix degradation and metastasis, and the transcription factor STAT-3. Furthermore, MAE influences various cellular processes critical for metastasis, including cell cycle progression, migration, angiogenesis, invasion, aggregation, and adhesion, suggesting its potential as a novel therapeutic agent for triple-negative breast cancer.
