Manganese-52 chloride is a radiopharmaceutical precursor containing the positron-emitting isotope manganese-52 ($^{52}$Mn). It is primarily utilized in nuclear medicine for the synthesis of PET (positron emission tomography) imaging agents. Due to its relatively long physical half-life of approximately 5.6 days, it is particularly well-suited for immuno-PET applications, allowing for the longitudinal tracking of slow-clearing molecules such as monoclonal antibodies. In preclinical research, it is used to radiolabel targeting vectors, such as bevacizumab (via chelators like DOTAGA), to visualize biomarkers like vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in oncology models. Additionally, the paramagnetic properties of the manganese ion enable its use as a contrast agent for MRI, facilitating dual-modality PET/MRI imaging that provides both functional and anatomical data.
