Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Manganese chlorin e6 (Mn-Ce6) is a research-stage metallo-chlorin compound consisting of the chlorin e6 macrocycle coordinated with a manganese ion. It is widely investigated as a multifunctional theranostic agent and an artificial cofactor. In oncology research, Mn-Ce6 is utilized in various nanoplatforms (such as nanocomplexes, hydrogels, and liposomes) to enable dual photodynamic therapy (PDT) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT) under near-infrared (NIR) laser irradiation, generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) to induce immunogenic cell death. Additionally, the released manganese ions act as potent adjuvants that activate the cGAS-STING pathway, promoting type I interferon secretion and robust antitumor immunity. Mn-Ce6 also serves as a paramagnetic contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and has been explored for thrombolytic and neuroprotective applications in ischemic stroke models. In biocatalysis, myoglobin reconstituted with Mn-Ce6 exhibits enhanced peroxidase-like catalytic efficiency.
