It functions as a non-specific immunomodulator, primarily by enhancing the phagocytic activity of macrophages and stimulating the production of various cytokines. In clinical practice, particularly in China, it is frequently utilized as an adjuvant therapy to mitigate the myelosuppressive effects of chemotherapy, such as leukopenia, and to bolster the host's immune response against tumors. It is currently being investigated in combination with checkpoint inhibitors like tislelizumab and chemotherapy regimens (e.g., CAPOX) for the treatment of advanced gastric and gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinomas to potentially modulate the tumor immune microenvironment and improve clinical outcomes.
