mannitol + dornase alfa

Mannitol + dornase alfa is a combination of two inhaled agents used in the management of cystic fibrosis to improve lung function by targeting airway mucus. Mannitol (marketed as Bronchitol) is an osmotic agent that draws water into the airways, thinning mucus and making it easier to clear. Dornase alfa (marketed as Pulmozyme) is a recombinant human deoxyribonuclease I enzyme that selectively cleaves extracellular DNA in pulmonary secretions, reducing mucus viscosity and promoting clearance from the lungs. Both are administered via inhalation but should not be mixed together in the same nebulizer due to potential interactions. This combination may be considered for patients with cystic fibrosis who require enhanced mucociliary clearance; however, evidence for additive benefit over monotherapy remains limited[1][3][5][6].
