Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Manocept is a proprietary drug delivery platform developed by Navidea Biopharmaceuticals, designed to target the CD206 (mannose receptor) expressed on activated macrophages. The platform utilizes a mannosylated dextran backbone (tilmanocept) that binds with high affinity to CD206, which is overexpressed in various disease states including solid tumors, rheumatoid arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions. While the platform's most advanced application is the FDA-approved diagnostic agent Lymphoseek (99mTc-tilmanocept), Navidea is leveraging the Manocept backbone to deliver therapeutic payloads—such as anti-inflammatory agents or cytotoxic drugs—directly to M2-like macrophages. This targeted approach aims to modulate the immune microenvironment in oncology and reduce systemic toxicity in inflammatory diseases by concentrating the therapeutic effect at macrophage-associated disease sites.
