Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Manzhi Guben is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation currently under clinical investigation for its potential to improve exercise tolerance and promote recovery in patients convalescing from COVID-19. The drug is a combination of the classical Yupingfeng (Jade Screen) prescription—which consists of *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi), *Atractylodes macrocephala* (Baizhu), and *Saposhnikovia divaricata* (Fangfeng)—with the addition of *Angelica sinensis* (Danggui). Mechanistically, the formulation is designed to modulate the immune system by stimulating the interferon system and promoting both humoral and cellular immunity. Its components also offer anti-inflammatory, antithrombotic, and cardiopulmonary protective effects, aimed at addressing symptoms such as fatigue, muscle weakness, and respiratory distress associated with long-term viral recovery.
