Mapisal

**Mapisal** is a Medac topical antioxidant ointment marketed as a medical device for prophylaxis and treatment of chemotherapy-associated hand-foot syndrome, also called palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia. It forms a protective skin film and contains antioxidant and plant-derived components intended to neutralize chemotherapy-associated free radicals implicated in local skin injury. A randomized Phase III study in patients receiving capecitabine for gastrointestinal tumors or breast cancer found that 10% urea cream was superior to Mapisal for prevention of any-grade hand-foot syndrome during the first 6 weeks of treatment.
