Overview

Maqin Granules is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) compound developed by the Sichuan Academy of Chinese Medicine Sciences for the treatment of respiratory conditions, specifically post-infectious cough (PIC) and cough variant asthma (CVA). The formulation is based on the TCM principles of clearing heat, ventilating the lungs, and relieving cough, and it primarily contains extracts from *Ephedra herba* (Ma Huang) and *Scutellariae Radix* (Huang Qin). Maqin Granules is designed to address the "wind-heat invading the lung" syndrome, characterized by persistent coughing following a respiratory infection. Mechanistically, the drug exerts antitussive and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-4 and IL-5, reducing serum IgE levels, and decreasing airway hyperresponsiveness. It has progressed to Phase 3 clinical trials in China for the treatment of post-infectious cough.
