Maqin Kechuan mixture

Maqin Kechuan mixture is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) liquid formulation developed by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Tianjin Medical University for the treatment of bronchial asthma. The name "Maqin" refers to its primary herbal constituents, *Ephedra sinica* (Ma Huang) and *Scutellaria baicalensis* (Huang Qin), which provide bronchodilatory and anti-inflammatory effects, respectively. It is primarily indicated for the acute phase of asthma to relieve symptoms such as cough, wheezing, and chest tightness. In clinical practice, it is often utilized in a sequential treatment model where the mixture is used for acute symptom control, followed by maintenance therapy with formulations like Bufei granules. A Phase 4 clinical trial (ChiCTR-TRC-13003909) has evaluated this sequential TCM approach against standard Western therapy (Seretide) in patients with mild to moderate persistent asthma.
