Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Maqui extract is a natural, polyphenol-rich botanical extract derived from the fruit of the maqui berry (*Aristotelia chilensis*), native to the Patagonia region of Chile and Argentina. It is exceptionally rich in anthocyanins, particularly delphinidins, which provide potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Maqui extract has been clinically investigated for its benefits in metabolic health, including blood glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity, as well as eye health (dry eye syndrome) and skin vitality. Preclinical studies also suggest its potential therapeutic application in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), specifically Crohn's disease, where it has been shown to modulate inflammatory pathways such as NF-κB, PPAR-α, and the NLRP3 inflammasome, and reduce oxidative stress via the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.
