Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MAR001 is a potential first-in-class monoclonal antibody developed by Marea Therapeutics. It targets angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4), a protein highly expressed in adipose tissue. By inhibiting ANGPTL4, MAR001 augments lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity, leading to reductions in remnant cholesterol and triglycerides, and improvement of adipose tissue function. Human genetic data support ANGPTL4 as a promising therapeutic target for metabolic diseases due to its role in lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity. In clinical studies, MAR001 has demonstrated significant lowering of remnant cholesterol and triglycerides in patients with hypertriglyceridemia or metabolic dysfunction, with favorable safety and tolerability profiles[1][5][7].
