Overview

MAR531 is an investigational short-acting glucagon analog peptide developed originally by Marcadia Biotech and licensed to Eli Lilly for the treatment of severe hypoglycemia in diabetes. It was designed as a stable, pump- and pen-compatible liquid formulation suitable for single-use auto-injection devices, with pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties broadly similar to conventional glucagon but optimized for rapid, short-lived hyperglycemic responses. As a glucagon receptor agonist, MAR531 is intended to rapidly increase blood glucose by stimulating hepatic glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis, offering an alternative to reconstituted emergency glucagon kits for on-demand rescue of hypoglycemia.
