Maraciclatide is a synthetic cyclic peptide containing an RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) motif, designed to bind with high affinity to vitronectin receptors, specifically the αvβ3 and αvβ5 integrins. When radiolabelled with technetium 99m (as 99mTc-maraciclatide), it serves as a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical for single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging. Its primary use is in visualizing upregulated vitronectin receptors on proliferating endothelial cells, which are associated with neoplasia, cardiovascular diseases, inflammation, and endometriosis. Maraciclatide enables non-invasive detection of disease activity by targeting angiogenesis and tissue remodeling processes[1][3][5][7].
