This combination is used in patients with confirmed CCR5-tropic HIV-1 and is typically reserved for those who are treatment-experienced or have specific indications based on resistance profiles. The dosing of maraviroc must be adjusted when used with most protease inhibitors due to drug-drug interactions mediated by CYP3A4 metabolism[2][4].
