Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Maraviroc vaginal ring is an investigational sustained-release **intravaginal matrix ring** formulated with maraviroc alone for local HIV-1 prevention. The single-agent ring evaluated in MTN-013/IPM 026 contained 100 mg maraviroc and was used continuously for approximately 28 days by healthy HIV-negative women. Maraviroc is a selective allosteric antagonist of the CCR5 co-receptor, blocking entry of CCR5-tropic HIV-1 into susceptible host cells. This product is distinct from the dapivirine + maraviroc vaginal ring combination arm studied in the same Phase 1 trial.
