marmelosin

Marmelosin is a natural furanocoumarin bioactive constituent derived from the Indian medicinal plant *Aegle marmelos* (Bael). It is primarily investigated for its neuroprotective, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties. In preclinical models of Parkinson's disease, marmelosin has demonstrated the ability to ameliorate 6-OHDA-induced cognitive impairment and dopaminergic neuronal loss. Its mechanism of action involves the upregulation of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) signaling pathway, which leads to a reduction in pro-apoptotic markers such as activated caspase-3 and the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio.
