Marula oil-derived ceramide nanoparticles is a topical therapeutic formulation developed by Shanghai Chicmax Cosmetic Co., Ltd. for the treatment of various skin barrier-disrupted conditions. The active ingredient consists of plant-derived ceramides synthesized from marula oil, which is naturally rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (specifically oleic acid) and antioxidants. These ceramides are encapsulated within a nanoparticle delivery system designed to penetrate the stratum corneum to enhance skin barrier integrity and reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. In vitro studies have demonstrated that the formulation promotes the expression of key barrier proteins while significantly lowering cytokine levels. A clinical trial (NCT07066150) was completed to evaluate the cream's efficacy in repairing the human epidermal barrier and providing moisturizing and soothing effects for conditions such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and acne vulgaris.
