Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MarVax is a thermostable subunit protein vaccine developed for the prevention and post-exposure prophylaxis of Marburg virus disease (MVD). The vaccine consists of recombinantly expressed glycoprotein from the Marburg marburgvirus (MARV), formulated with a novel adjuvant to stimulate both humoral and cell-mediated immune responses. It is produced as a heat-stable, lyophilized powder that can be reconstituted with water for injection immediately prior to use. Preclinical studies in non-human primates have demonstrated 100% protection against lethal MARV challenge. The technology platform allows for potential multivalent formulations, including combinations with antigens from other filoviruses such as Sudan ebolavirus. Developed by Soligenix in partnership with the University of Hawaii at Manoa, MarVax has received orphan drug designation from the FDA[1][5][6].
