MAS-1 is a nanoparticle, water-in-oil emulsion-based adjuvant developed by Mercia Pharma to enhance the immunogenicity of vaccines and immunotherapies. It is designed to modulate the immune system by promoting Th2-biased and regulatory immune responses, which can be leveraged to restore self-tolerance in autoimmune conditions or to improve the efficacy and durability of vaccines for infectious diseases. MAS-1 is a key component of the MER-3101 vaccine candidate, which utilizes an insulin B-chain antigen for the prevention and treatment of Type 1 Diabetes. Additionally, it has been evaluated in clinical trials as an adjuvant for seasonal inactivated influenza vaccines and in immunotherapies targeting antigens such as GnRH and gastrin-17 for prostate and gastric cancers, respectively.
