Overview
Masilukast is an investigational small molecule drug developed primarily for the treatment of asthma. It acts as a cysteinyl leukotriene receptor antagonist (CysLT1 antagonist), targeting inflammatory pathways involved in bronchial asthma. Masilukast was originally developed by AstraZeneca and later by SAMA Pharmaceuticals/SamA Pharma. The drug has completed phase 2 clinical trials for mild to moderate bronchial asthma but has not received regulatory approval or marketing authorization in any country[4][5][8]. Its mechanism of action involves blocking the CysLT1 receptor to reduce airway inflammation and bronchoconstriction associated with asthma[8].
