Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Mastodinone is a non-hormonal, phytotherapeutic pharmaceutical developed by Bionorica SE, primarily indicated for the treatment of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), cyclic mastodynia (breast pain), and fibrocystic mastopathy. It is a homeopathic complex preparation formulated from a specific combination of plant extracts, including *Vitex agnus-castus* (Chaste Tree), *Caulophyllum thalictroides* (Blue Cohosh), *Cyclamen europaeum* (Sowbread), *Ignatia amara* (St. Ignatius Bean), *Iris versicolor* (Blue Flag), and *Lilium tigrinum* (Tiger Lily). The drug's primary mechanism of action is attributed to the dopaminergic effects of the *Vitex agnus-castus* component, which acts as a dopamine D2 receptor agonist. This stimulation inhibits the pathological secretion of prolactin from the anterior pituitary gland, thereby restoring the balance between estrogen and progesterone, normalizing the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle, and alleviating the physical and psychological symptoms of PMS and breast tension.
