Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MAT2501 is an orally-administered formulation of the broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic agent amikacin, utilizing Matinas BioPharma’s proprietary lipid nanocrystal (LNC) platform delivery technology. This technology enables targeted intracellular delivery of the drug payload and aims to reduce systemic toxicity by maintaining blood levels well below those associated with intravenous administration. MAT2501 is being developed as a potential first oral aminoglycoside for the treatment of nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections and other serious bacterial infections. The drug has demonstrated a strong safety profile in early clinical studies, with no serious adverse events reported and only mild gastrointestinal side effects observed at all tested doses[3][2][6].
