Maternal breast milk is a complex biological fluid produced by the mammary glands of human mothers, primarily intended for infant nutrition but also investigated for therapeutic topical applications. It contains a rich array of bioactive substances, including secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA), lactoferrin, lysozyme, and epidermal growth factor (EGF), which collectively exert antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing effects. In clinical research led by the University of Malaya, topical application of maternal breast milk is being evaluated as a cost-effective and safe alternative to commercial barrier creams for the management of mild-to-moderate diaper dermatitis in infants.
