Overview
Matico (Buddleja globosa Hope) is a topical herbal drug derived from a Chilean native plant traditionally used in folk medicine for wound healing and as an anti-inflammatory agent. The active preparation is a standardized hydroalcoholic extract (often designated as BG126) from matico leaves, containing a standardized profile of polyphenols, including flavonoids and verbascoside. Formulated as a topical cream, it is used to treat chronic wounds and skin ulcers by accelerating the healing process and reducing inflammation. The drug has been evaluated in randomized clinical trials in Chile sponsored by the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT) and is recognized by the Chilean Ministry of Health as a traditional herbal medicine.
