Matrix Patch equine is a cell-free biological tissue patch composed of decellularized equine pericardium, developed by Auto Tissue Berlin for the surgical repair of congenital and acquired cardiac and vascular defects. Unlike traditional biological patches that often rely on glutaraldehyde fixation, Matrix Patch equine is produced through a proprietary glutaraldehyde-free decellularization process. This method effectively removes all cellular components and genetic material while preserving the natural three-dimensional structure and mechanical properties of the equine extracellular matrix (ECM). By avoiding glutaraldehyde, the patch minimizes the risk of inflammatory responses and dystrophic calcification, promoting superior biocompatibility and potentially allowing for endogenous tissue regeneration and remodeling at the site of implantation. It is used in various surgical procedures, including the reconstruction of the right ventricular outflow tract, septal defect repair, and vascular reconstruction.
