Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Matuzumab + paclitaxel is a combination therapy consisting of matuzumab, a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody targeting the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), and paclitaxel, a cytotoxic chemotherapy agent. This combination was investigated primarily for the treatment of EGFR-expressing advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The therapy showed some evidence of anticancer activity in clinical trials, with tumor growth control observed in 34% of patients overall and 56% of patients at the 800 mg weekly dose level of matuzumab. Response to treatment appeared to correlate with EGFR expression levels but was not dependent on EGFR kinase domain mutations.
