Overview

Mavrilimumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody that targets and antagonizes the alpha subunit of the granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor receptor (GM-CSF-Rα or CD116). By blocking this receptor, mavrilimumab inhibits signaling by GM-CSF, a cytokine involved in inflammatory and immune responses. The drug was originally discovered as CAM-3001 by Cambridge Antibody Technology and has been developed by MedImmune and later Kiniksa Pharmaceuticals. Mavrilimumab has been investigated primarily for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA), giant cell arteritis (GCA), and COVID-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). It has received orphan drug designation from the FDA for GCA[5][3][4].
