MAX.16H5 is a murine monoclonal antibody targeting the human CD4 antigen on T cells. It has been investigated primarily for its immunomodulatory effects in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), as well as for preventing acute late-onset rejection after renal allograft transplantation[1][2][6][7]. The antibody binds specifically to an epitope on the CD4 molecule and modulates T cell function without causing significant immunosuppression or critical allergic reactions[1]. Clinical studies have shown that treatment with MAX.16H5 can result in clinical benefits by suppressing certain cytokines (e.g., IL-6) while preserving other immune functions[7]. Several variants exist including chimeric forms (e.g., 16H5.chimIgG4)[6].
