Overview

MAXCAPs is an investigational preclinical PAC1 receptor agonist fusion protein developed by the Pisegna-Germano Laboratory at the University of California and licensed exclusively worldwide to Salix Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Bausch Health. It is being developed for the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), conditions for which there were no FDA-approved therapies at the time of the agreement. Animal studies have shown promise in its ability to suppress appetite and fat accumulation.
