Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Maxigesic Rapid is a patented, rapid-release oral tablet formulation containing a fixed-dose combination of paracetamol (acetaminophen) 325 mg and ibuprofen 97.5 mg. Developed by AFT Pharmaceuticals in partnership with Hyloris Pharmaceuticals, it is designed to provide faster pain relief by accelerating the dissolution and absorption of the active ingredients, particularly ibuprofen. Paracetamol acts centrally as an analgesic and antipyretic, while ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that non-selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis. Maxigesic Rapid is indicated for the management of mild to moderate acute pain, including headache, migraine, toothache, backache, arthritis, period pain, muscular pain, sinus pain, sore throat, and aches and pains associated with colds and flu. It received US FDA approval in March 2023 and is marketed under the brand name Combogesic Rapid in the United States.
