Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MAXIHEME-PLUS is a nutraceutical supplement developed by Ingram Biosciences. It contains heme iron polypeptide, a form of iron derived from hemoglobin. Unlike traditional non-heme iron salts (such as ferrous sulfate), heme iron polypeptide is absorbed through a distinct pathway in the small intestine, which typically results in higher bioavailability and a lower incidence of gastrointestinal side effects like constipation and nausea. It is primarily used for the prevention and treatment of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia.
