Drug intelligence / Profile preview
maxing cough syrup (also known as Ma Xing Zhi Ke Tang Jiang) is an approved traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syrup formulation developed and manufactured by Guizhou Yibai Women's Pharmacy (a subsidiary of Guizhou Yibai). It is derived from the classic TCM formula Ma Xing Shi Gan Decoction and is composed of four active herbal ingredients: Ephedra (*Ephedra sinica*), bitter apricot seed (*Prunus armeniaca*), gypsum, and licorice (*Glycyrrhiza uralensis*). The syrup is primarily indicated for the treatment of bronchitis, cough, phlegm, and wheezing. Its pharmacological action is mediated by the active alkaloids in Ephedra (such as ephedrine and pseudoephedrine) which act as adrenoceptor agonists to dilate bronchioles and relieve asthma, combined with the antitussive effects of amygdalin from bitter apricot seeds and the anti-inflammatory and expectorant properties of licorice.
