Overview

Maxing Shigan Decoction + Qingfei Yin is a combination of two traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulas used primarily for the treatment of respiratory diseases, including pneumonia and COVID-19. Maxing Shigan Decoction, originating from the Treatise on Febrile Diseases, consists of Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang), Armeniacae Semen Amarum (Ku Xingren), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gan Cao). It acts to diffuse the lung, discharge heat, suppress cough, and calm panting. Qingfei Yin is a TCM prescription developed for treating pneumonia; its main ingredients include baical skullcap root (Huangqin), weeping forsythia capsule (Lianqiao), blackberry lily rhizome (Shegan), and tendrilleaf fritillary bulb (Chuan Beimu). The combination is believed to have anti-inflammatory effects, reduce fever duration in viral infections such as influenza A H1N1 and COVID-19, modulate immune responses by inhibiting NF-κB signaling pathway activation in macrophages, and ameliorate microvascular hyperpermeability. These formulas are widely used in China as adjunctive therapies alongside conventional treatments for respiratory tract infections[3][2][4].
