Overview

Maxorb Extra Ag is a highly absorbent, non-woven antimicrobial wound dressing manufactured by Medline Industries, Inc. It is composed of calcium alginate and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) fibers impregnated with ionic silver in the form of silver sodium hydrogen zirconium phosphate. When applied to a wound, the dressing absorbs exudate and transforms into a gel, which helps maintain a moist environment conducive to healing while facilitating easy, one-piece removal. The ionic silver provides a controlled release of antimicrobial activity for up to 21 days, offering protection against a broad spectrum of microorganisms, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE). It is indicated for the management of moderately to heavily draining partial- and full-thickness wounds such as pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, leg ulcers, donor sites, and surgical wounds.
