MAY-44

MAY-44 is a topical, non-estrogen analgesic gel formulation containing 3.75% lidocaine, specifically developed for the treatment of dyspareunia (painful sexual intercourse). It was acquired by Mayfield Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Harrow Health, from Elle Pharmaceutical. As a local anesthetic, lidocaine works by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in the neuronal membrane, which prevents the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses, thereby providing localized pain relief. This non-hormonal approach offers an alternative for women who cannot or prefer not to use estrogen-based treatments for vaginal pain.
