Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MAY-88 is an investigational, proprietary intravesical formulation of pentosan polysulfate sodium (PPS) being developed for the treatment of interstitial cystitis (IC), also known as painful bladder syndrome. Developed by Mayfield Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Harrow Health, MAY-88 is designed to be delivered directly into the bladder to restore the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer of the bladder epithelium. This layer is often compromised in patients with IC, allowing urinary solutes to penetrate the bladder wall and cause inflammation and pain. By replenishing this protective barrier, MAY-88 aims to provide a non-systemic therapeutic option that minimizes the side effects associated with oral PPS while maximizing local efficacy at the site of the disease.
