Overview

Maytenus senegalensis is a medicinal plant belonging to the Celastraceae family. It is a shrub or tree that grows up to 15 meters high and is widely distributed across Africa, Arabia, Afghanistan, and India. The plant has been traditionally used in African medicine for treating various ailments including malaria, inflammation, respiratory diseases, and infectious diseases. Scientific studies have confirmed its antimalarial, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties, with maytenoic acid being identified as a key anti-inflammatory compound. Clinical trials have demonstrated that M. senegalensis is safe and tolerable when administered at a dose of 800 mg every eight hours for four days, with no serious adverse events reported.
