mazaticol

Mazaticol is a small molecule anticholinergic drug developed by Tanabe Seiyaku in the 1970s and marketed since 1978 in Japan, primarily under the brand name Pentona. It acts as a muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist with affinity for M1 and M2 subtypes, reducing cholinergic nerve activity in the central nervous system. Mazaticol is mainly used to treat parkinsonian syndromes, especially those induced by psychotropic drugs. Its efficacy is comparable to other anticholinergics like trihexyphenidyl but with less peripheral side effects. Animal studies also suggest it may inhibit dopamine uptake at striatal nerve terminals[3][5][7].
