Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MaZiRenWan (MZRW) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily used for the treatment of functional constipation. It is composed of six botanical ingredients: *Cannabis sativa* L. (Hemp seed/Huo Ma Ren), *Rheum palmatum* L. (Rhubarb/Da Huang), *Magnolia officinalis* Rehd. et Wils. (Hou Po), *Citrus aurantium* L. (Zhi Shi), *Prunus armeniaca* L. (Xing Ren), and *Paeonia lactiflora* Pall. (Bai Shao). The formula is designed to moisten the intestines, clear heat, and promote bowel movements. Modern clinical research, particularly led by Hong Kong Baptist University, has focused on standardizing the formula (as CDD-2101) for regulatory approval in functional constipation and constipation-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-C). Its pharmacological action involves a synergistic effect where anthraquinones stimulate colonic motility and fatty oils provide lubrication to the intestinal tract.
