MB-JEV is an inactivated Japanese encephalitis (JE) vaccine derived from mouse brain tissue. It contains inactivated whole virus (typically Nakayama or Beijing-1 strain) and is used to induce immunity against the Japanese encephalitis virus. The vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies that protect against infection with the JE virus. Historically, it was widely used for both travelers and residents in endemic areas, especially children. However, due to concerns about rare but serious adverse events and advances in manufacturing technology, production of MB-JEV has ceased or been restricted in many countries; newer cell culture-derived vaccines have largely replaced it[1][2][3][5]. The primary indication for MB-JEV was prevention of Japanese encephalitis.
